THE ARTIST
My name is Dane Groneman, and I’m an 18-year-old self-taught woodturner with a deep passion for the craft. My journey began in my high school woodshop in a small community in Lassen County, California, where I came across an old Powermatic lathe gathering dust in the corner. Curious, I asked my teacher for guidance, but with only basic experience using scrapers, there was little instruction he could offer.
Rather than letting that stop me, I dove headfirst into woodturning on my own. I spent countless hours studying books, watching YouTube tutorials, and practicing at the lathe until the techniques started to click. From the very first time I turned on the lathe, I knew I had found something special.
Over the past two years, I’ve been inspired by masters of the craft like Richard Raffan and Mike Mahoney, whose influence continues to shape my style and approach. Today, my work reflects not only the technical skills I’ve developed but also the genuine passion and dedication I bring to each piece.
